The Vile for Piano and Electronics
This is an original composition for piano and electronic. The piece is inspired by and based on a short story I wrote titled The Vile. In the story, creatures nicknamed, "The Vile", drain the life and resources from their planet. The planet, being abused by the Vile for so long, nears the end of its life and cries for the Vile to stop its destruction and parasitic ways. The planet eventually takes its last breaths and dies.
My idea for this piece was to extend the sound of the piano with the electronic rather than treating them as separate forces. Because of this there are many rhythmic unisons between the piano and electronics.
A recording of The Vile performed by myself at the Eastman School of Music in 2018: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsZwU3JwhXQ
